About Neptune

The NEPTUNE-project is a project led by Savonia University of Applied Sciences and project leader Jarkko Surakka, in an attempt to create a positive impact in this world through innovative ideas. NEPTUNE, or the Network for Environmental Projects in Technology United in Europe, is a groundbreaking initiative that brings together six teams of talented students from five different countries. Each participating university sends six students who represent a diverse range of backgrounds, including civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architecture, and more.

The primary purpose of NEPTUNE is to tackle some of the most pressing environmental challenges facing our world today. Each team works collaboratively to develop innovative solutions that have the potential to transform the way we approach environmental sustainability. The program provides a unique platform for students to apply their knowledge and skills, while also fostering cross-cultural and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Through NEPTUNE, students have the opportunity to not only make a meaningful impact on our environment but also gain valuable experience working in a global team setting. The program empowers the next generation of professionals to become leaders in their respective fields, equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to effect positive change in their communities and beyond.

The Neptune logo

The concept behind the logo draws inspiration from the idea of bees working together to create something greater than themselves. Similarly, NEPTUNE brings together students from diverse backgrounds and cultures, working collaboratively to develop innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges.

Just as bees come together to build hives for honey, the participating students in NEPTUNE are joining forces to create something big and meaningful. The hive structures represent the collective efforts of each team, with the center hive signifying the powerful impact of collaboration and unity.

The NEPTUNE logo, hence, serves as a reminder of the program’s commitment to cross-cultural and interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as its dedication to fostering a better, more sustainable world.

The NEPTUNE logo is a visual representation of the program’s core values and mission. The six hive structures symbolize the six participating teams, with each hive representing one of the five universities and the sixth one in the center signifying the program itself – NEPTUNE.
